DESCRIPTION

The Electrical Technician is a critical member of FHL’s Facilities team. Under the general supervision of the Chief Maintenance Technician and the Director of Facilities and Engineering, the Electrical Technician will take the lead role in maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing the High Line’s and High Line Headquarters’ lighting and electrical systems. The individual must also be willing to perform maintenance tasks for the High Line’s unique infrastructure as part of a team. 

Responsibilities 

  • Provide preventive and predictive maintenance of the electrical systems, conducting daily rounds and readings
  • Installation and repair of electrical systems and wiring including but not limited to: power distribution systems, LED lighting systems, control panels, components of machinery and equipment, data and fiber optic wiring, and security camera infrastructure
  • Document workflow through the organization’s Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS)
  • Complete daily work orders as assigned and update team with daily work reports outlining progress and new issues
  • Identify when an external contractor/vendor is needed, and work in collaboration with contractor/vendor to complete work
  • Maintain inventories of electrical materials
  • Perform maintenance job functions as needed, including but not limited to basic repairs to High Line MEP infrastructure, furnishings, and utilities
  • Participate in the winterization and spring start-ups on applicable systems
  • Model, implement, and comply with electrical safety rules and related industry regulations
  • Follow Standard Operating Procedures for repair of electrical systems
  • Identify and suggest new approaches or best known methods to foster continuous improvement
  • Perform other duties as assigned, including winter snow and ice removal

REQUIREMENTS

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Demonstrated ability to perform a wide variety of maintenance and operational tasks
  • Ability to troubleshoot controls and electrical systems with amp meters, voltmeters, tracers, and recording devices
  • Ability to read electrical schematics, electrical prints, wiring diagrams, and nameplates
  • Ability to troubleshoot variable frequency drives (VFD) drives and controls
  • Knowledge of single phase and three phase AC circuits
  • Strong understanding of local codes and ordinances
  • Ability to use ladders, scaffolding, and/or a scissor lift while performing job duties
  • Ability to work with power tools, small motorized equipment, and vehicles
  • Able to work alone or in groups
  • Able and willing to work outdoors in all weather conditions, sometimes for extended periods of time
  • Ability to work overtime, weekends, holidays, and on an on-call basis as needed
  • Team player and highly self-motivated individual
  • Experienced in implementing safety procedures in the workplace
  • Ability to relate well to the public in a highly-visited public space.
  • Good communication skills and ability to follow oral and written instructions
  • Job requires employee to walk, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and regularly lift and/or move 50 lbs., and occasionally lift and/or move heavy objects utilizing proper tools and leverage methods in excess of 75 lbs
  • Must be able to successfully complete required practical and/or written exams
  • Valid NYS driver’s license
  • Ability to complete required coursework
