Summary:

The Save Beth Israel and New York Eye and Ear Campaign, along with various community groups, are pleased with the decision by the New York State Department of Health to deem Mount Sinai Health System's proposed closure plan for Beth Israel Medical Center as incomplete. They appreciate the Department's recognition that nearby hospitals may not have the capacity to accommodate patients who would no longer be able to use Beth Israel, especially for emergency services.

The Campaign also questions Mount Sinai's claim that financial losses at Beth Israel are threatening the rest of the Mount Sinai system, as financial statements suggest that other Mount Sinai hospitals have also sustained significant operating losses. The Campaign calls on Mount Sinai leadership to cease their illegal behavior and restore hospital services needed by the community. They urge Mount Sinai to work with the community to fulfill its legal charitable mission of operating a community hospital. The Campaign is supported by various community groups, NYC Community Boards, and elected officials from Lower Manhattan and beyond.
