Disability Pride Month is celebrated every July and is an opportunity to honor the history, achievements, experiences, and struggles of the disability community. July 26th marks the anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act, landmark legislation that broke down barriers to inclusion in society, although many barriers still exist. Ways to celebrate Disability Pride month include: Learning about the history of the ADA movement and the diverse population of people with disabilities and their unique range of needs, Sharing your (or helping others share their) stories, taking action such as reaching out to elected officials, and hiring people with disabilities.
